WORLD’S SMALLEST DRAWBRIDGE Somerset Island, Bermuda

Expedition Team: Dave Miller, Rosie Miller           Expedition Date: June 10, 2008

Connecting Somerset Bridge with mainland Bermuda is the world’s smallest drawbridge.  Only the mast of a sailboat can fit through it. The bridge is mentioned in Bermuda’s Parliament in 1620 and appears on a Bermuda map in 1624.  The drawbridge is opened by hand, creating a 32 inch gap allowing for the passage of a sailboat’s mast. Rosie is shown stepping over the drawbridge trapdoor (Photo#2).
