Another World Record Holder practically right in my own backyard. Just 4,100 families in the Miami Valley had a television set when WHIO-TV went on the air in 1949. Built in 1953, WHIO had the World’s Tallest TV Transmitter Tower which was also the 3rd Highest Man-Made Structure in the World at that time. At 316,000 watts, it added 116,000 more viewers to the Channel 7 coverage area for 406,000 total. The tower is 1,104 feet tall and is located at 3300 Germantown Pike.
