This hike reminded me of Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. It was a tough hike and climb in several places as we ascended soft, deep sand to a ridge overlooking lots of dunes. Wooden stakes marked the one-mile trail which continuously took us up and down. This was draining in the 82-degree hot sun. Some desert plants adopted and grew below the sand, poking through. I saw a few tracks and rangers told us that some animals came out at night such as lizards and mice. Some patrons rented sleds and tried sliding down the sand dunes. You could clearly see the San Andres Mountains to the north beyond the sand dunes.
