The Biltmore Estate & Gardens, the largest house in America is a popular roadside attraction is worth a one-time view. Built between 1889 & 1895 by George Vanderbilt on 8,000 acres, it was incredible for its time. It is the largest privately owned house in America. Among the 250 rooms, 35 bedrooms & 43 bathrooms was a 70,000 gallon heated indoor pool and one of the nation’s first bowling alleys. The mansion was decorated for Christmas and was beautiful. For me, it was too ritzy and didn’t feel homey. I would not want to live in it today or 110 years ago.
