INDIANA JONES MOVIE SET Antonito, Colorado

Expedition Team: Dave Miller, Rosie Miller                Expedition Date: September 21, 2019

Being an Indiana Jones fan this is a great Roadside Attraction.  Had a beautiful 310 mile drive through southern Colorado to Moab, Utah cresting three different 10,000+ mountain summits. In Antonito, Colorado we visited the house used in “Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade”, now a bed and breakfast. In the movie it is the boyhood home of Indiana Jones (River Phoenix) with Indy on the run from relic & graverobbers. Sean Connery is in the scene as his father.
Nearby the local railroad and tracks were used for the train chase scene. Today, the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, national historic landmark & train museum provides 96 mile round trip train rides to Chama, New Mexico and back.

Two miles east in Conejos was Colorado’s oldest church “Our Lady of Guadaloupe” Catholic Church built in 1858.

We saw countless “Open Range Cattle” signs. With no fencing, we periodically came upon cattle standing in the road. Near one summit a 1,500 pound dead steer laying in the road. I hope the rancher found him soon because that was a lot of good beef to lose. We had a lunch of healthy organic food at a café at Pagosa Springs, home of Red Ryder comic artist/writer Fred Harman and where the annual Red Ryder rodeo is held.
