After completing a 7.3-mile hike at nearby Germantown Metropark, we were tired but forced ourselves to hike 1.7 miles of this nearby incredible Memorial Park trail. I am glad that we did. The park was built by the Weidle Family to honor their son Daniel who lost his life in 2015 to the medical disease of addiction triggered by opioids. The park is for people to come and reduce stress and the pressures of the world, improve one’s overall mental health and experience a place of communion with God and nature.
The trail begins through towering pine trees that immediately provided isolation, quietness, and peace. The trail emerges from the forest into an open short grass prairie. There are twelve “stations” along the trail, some are memorials and photo kiosks, some are wellness and meditation areas (benches, hammock), animal pastures, tree carvings, a pond, and a small chapel. The trail was a loving display by the Weidle Family, and I highly encourage people to hike here.
