Affectionally called The Big Dam Bridge, this 4,226-foot span built in 2006 across the Murray Lock & Dam is 90 feet above the Arkansas River and 30 feet above the dam. The bridge connects 14+ miles of scenic riverside trails. It took a great effort on my part to pedal non-stop up the winding bike trail to the horizontal summit of the bridge but the views looking down at the river, the dam and the park land were beautiful. The Big Dam Bridge helps connect 7,000 acres of city, county, state and federal park land.
