Food Challenges are always a roadside attraction event. The Submarine House Sub Challenge consisted of eating a 16-inch sub in 16 minutes to win a t-shirt and not have to pay for the sub. If you didn’t finish eating it after 16 minutes, you lose and then must pay $29 for the sub. The sub was actually two 8-inch Philly cheesesteak subs and they were stuffed very thick with meat, cheese, and onions. I must admit it was the most delicious sub that I have ever eaten. The gun sounded and we were off. They took our forks and spoons away so we had to scrap up the loose meat and cheese with our fingers. Matt said that he had not eaten anything all day. I had an early but small lunch six hours before. Matt took huge bites and made steady progress. I was consistent, taking medium sized bites, chewing fast and sipping water. Matt won and finished with about 2 ¾ minutes remaining on the clock. When the 16-minute mark came, I lost as I still had 40 per cent of my sub remaining but I was still chewing. Mom celebrated his victory by ordering a large chocolate brownie. Neither one of us felt sick nor got sick. I took my remaining sub home and ate it for lunch the next day. I enjoyed doing this fun contest with my son.
