Another Route 66 roadside attraction icon, this is an 18-foot-high portal that you can stand under or drive your car under and pose. It’s a great photo op. At night it is lit up in red and purple LED neon lights with red painted flames. It was built in 2016 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Route 66. I drove my pickup truck under it during the daytime for photos. Then we went off to hike several trails at El Malpais National Monument Park. Nearby was a railroad caboose that I climbed on and some unique Indian art painted on satellite dishes.
