The famous hit Eagles song entitled “Take It Easy” included these famous lyrics written by Jackson Browne. So, we parked our travel trailer a few blocks away and walked down to “the corner”, officially called The Standing on the Corner Park located on Route 66. The Eagles music was playing on loudspeakers and in the stores. On the corner was a statue of Glenn Fry and Don Henley, plus a colorful mural of a girl in a flatbed ford, eagles wings and other historic memorabilia. Several stores on the corner sold Eagles souvenirs and CD’s. We ordered lunch at a restaurant across from the corner called the Sipp Shoppe where I had a Reuben sandwich and a root beer float. We sat outside eating, people watching and enjoying the music. One tourist who looked like Joe Walsh posed with other tourists while holding a guitar. While we ate, over a hundred people came and went, taking photos of this corner park. If it wasn’t for the song lyrics, there was nothing in Winslow that I saw to attract tourists. So, this corner was quite the gold mine for this little city.
