Today, on perhaps the last really hot day of fall (81 degrees), we hiked 6.1 total miles on the Perimeter Trail beginning at the Furnas Shores Boat Ramp and heading southwest. The Perimeter Trail is 13 miles overall and is located on the southern half of the lake. The trail was a little bit challenging in the heat even with the tree cover as the trail went up and down small hills continuously. We saw some monarch butterflies, a couple squirrels, a skunk and occasionally beautiful views of the lake. Lots of boats were out on this sunny early October warm day. Rosie was the trailblazer and set a blistering pace for me to try to keep up.
