HIKED WILD PERSIMMON TRAIL De Leon Springs State Park, De Leon Springs, Florida

Hiking Team: Dave Miller, Rosie Miller

Date: November 13, 2024

At the state park, we made our own pancakes at the Old Sugar Mill Pancake House. There was a grill in the middle of our table, and it was all you can eat. Thoroughly stuffed, we wanted to kayak but the kayak rental was still closed due to recent hurricane damage. We then hiked part of the 4.5-mile Wild Persimmon Trail. Part of the trail was closed to downed trees and high water from the hurricane. We passed the Old Methuselah (a 500-year-old bald cypress tree) and many sweet gum, magnolia and cabbage palm trees. We soon came upon one cool sighting – a big, Barred Owl sleeping high up in a tree.
