This roadside attraction is billed as the World’s First Oceanarium and opened in 1938. The main attraction was a bottlenose dolphin and people clogged Highway A1A to see this attraction. I have a cassette tape of Ripley’s Believe It or Not radio show from February 1940 where Robert Ripley wears a bell diving suit and submerges. He emcees the radio show while underwater and describes all Marineland Sea creatures including a shark that swims nearby. Scenes from the movie “Creature from the Black Lagoon” were filmed here. We saw a dolphin show here long ago but now Marineland mainly offers just dolphin encounters.
