This Miami County Park District Preserve was just west of I-75, but you would never have guessed. It was rural, quiet and peaceful on this sunny fall day. The park was reclaimed agricultural land that was a combination of wetlands, open prairie and woodland. The 2.1-mile hike encompassed several trails. The first trail took us to a prairie loop called Pheasant Crossing with tall grass and wildflowers. The second trail took us past an overlook of the wetlands pond where we sat on a bench and listened to the birds and ducks. The Bobwhite Loop Trail took us around more prairie. Along this trail we came to ten signs telling a fictional story with a bird featured on each sign. Using the QR Code on the sign, you could listen to the real chirping sound of each specific bird. Near the end we entered the only tree covered area of the preserve.
