MAYBERRY CAFÉ, Danville, Indiana

This was a tasty and nostalgic roadside attraction built around the Andy Griffith Show theme. The restaurant, established in 1989, featured home-cooked meals just like Aunt Bee put on the table for Andy and Opie Taylor. There were autographed photos on the wall, six TV sets playing the Andy Griffith Show and a replica police car parked outside. The warm comfort food was delicious. I ordered Opie’s Prize Catch Bluegill which was six bluegills (the first time I have ever eaten bluegill fish), potatoes and onion rings. Delicious! Other items on the menu were Barney’s Burger, Otis’s Whiskey Burger, Floyds Catfish and Aunt Bee’s Fried Chicken. Rosie and I had a rare desert and split “Monkey on your Back” which was a warm chocolate brownie, ice cream & chocolate fudge. Fantastic. Rosie enjoyed watching the show on TV while we ate.
