KECKSBURG UFO “SPACE ACORN” Kecksburg, Pennsylvania

Expedition Team: Dave Miller, Rosie Miller

Date: August 11, 2026

This small hamlet in Westmoreland County has less than 150 people but this heavily wooded area was the site of an alleged UFO crash on December 9, 1965, just outside Kecksburg. A large bright fireball was seen by thousands of people in six states and locals said that the UFO was “acorn shaped”. Although the government said that the fireball was a meteor, locals claim that an Army flatbed truck arrived within hours, threw a tarp over the Acorn and hauled it away. Witnesses say that a band of writing like Egyptian hieroglyphics circles around the 15 foot object.

In 1990, the TV show “Unsolved Mysteries” filmed a segment on the Space Acorn UFO and built a life size replica of the acorn-shaped UFO which is erected on a small hillside across from the volunteer fire department building and a social club/bar building. After hearing loud voices from the inside of the social club and finding the door locked, I rang the doorbell four times, but no one came to open the door. There is allegedly a small UFO Museum inside the social club. The outside west wall of the club has a sign saying that a large mural will be painted there in the Fall of 2026. Another sign indicated that a UFO Festival had been held there 25 days earlier.

The Space Acorn UFO replica and a sign enlightening visitors on the incident is easily accessible and a great stop to check out.
