SOUTH OF THE BORDER (SOB) Dillon, South Carolina

Expedition Team: Dave Miller, Rosie Miller                                                                                Expedition Date:   2017

Can you say cheese? Located just south of the North Carolina border, this famous roadside attraction is a tacky tourist trap yet, you just got to stop there.  Pedro’s billboards line the interstate in every direction making you think it is a Mexican Disney World.  Then you finally see the 200 foot tall Giant Sombrero Observation Tower in the distance and get excited.  It’s all downhill from there.  SOB is a collection of theme shops, restaurants, gas station, RV campground, Reptile Lagoon, Fort Pedro, ice cream shop, giant animals & more.  In the gift shop is the world’s largest beer stein, which I wish was full of beer as I needed a drink it to get through this Mexican jungle.  All in all, if the four kids would have been with us, they would have loved this place.
