HOCKING HILLS STATE PARK-BUCKEYE TRAIL Expedition #1 Hocking County, Ohio

Expedition Team:  Rosie Miller,  Dave Miller                                                                                   Expedition Date:    August 2017

This trail from Old Man’s Cave to Cedar Falls and back is about 7 miles.  We hiked the Lower Gorge Trail (also is part of the Buckeye Trail) to Cedar Falls then returned on the shaded Upper Gorge Trail.  This lower gorge trail is a moderate and at times challenging trail with areas of flat land, steps or climbing up and around rocks.  This was quite the workout.

Near the end of the seven miles off of the upper trail is a stone bridge and a short rugged trail leading up to the upper falls.  Below sits the Devil’s Bathtub, a unique rock whirlpool.  Farther along the trail is the beautiful lower falls, a great place to take a break and put our feet in the water.  While resting we saw a crazy lady walking a cat on a leash.
