PATRIOTS POINT Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina

Expedition Team: Dave Miller, Matt Miller

Date: September 1999

A fun, historic stop as we climbed on board the giant WWII aircraft carrier USS Yorktown which is anchored across from Charleston and Fort Sumter. Commissioned in 1943 it was involved in many significant battles in the Pacific. Matt and I roamed throughout the carrier, saw many WWII aircraft on the flight deck and even saw a photo of my fathers WWII small aircraft carrier, the USS Cowpens. We then toured the USS Clamagore built in 1944, the last surviving example of a GUPPY type submarine. Walking through the sub the tight quarters seemed claustrophobic at times. Afterwards at the museum we enjoyed the displays and I purchased a Civil War ball/bullet. That evening God gave us a beautiful sunset (Photo#3).
