The seven story, 180,000 square foot building, former headquarters of Longaberger Baskets called the “Basket Building”, was opened in 1997. Basket and home product sales in 2000 was $1 billion dollars. The basket handles weigh 150 tons and could be heated in cold weather to prevent ice damage. After 45 years in 2018, the once popular handcrafted maple wood basket making company ceased operations due to lack of sales. Locals told me the Basket Building was sold and would become a hotel but that had yet come to fruition. Still it was one impressive Roadside Attraction of novelty architecture.
