Just outside of this small town of 5,600 people is the geographical Center of the United States. In town, behind the visitor center is the geographic center monument, a giant compass 21 feet across made from South Dakota granite. The compass is ringed with flags from all 50 states. Beside the compass, we visited the Johnny Spaulding cabin, a Black hills scout, hunter, and pioneer, built in 1876.
