We immediately descended a steep trail to a quiet, marshy pond with a long boardwalk on the north side. We saw a dozen large and small turtles sunbathing on logs. Turning right we crossed the boardwalk, turned left, and ascended the steep trail up the ridge. I could hear woodpeckers pecking away on trees as we crossed the ridge. Movement in the woods on my right revealed a wild turkey (sorry, not the kind you drink in a bottle) and later I saw a blue heron. Eventually, the trail circled around back to the pond. The lazy turtles were still on the logs staring at us. We ascended the trail up the steep hill to the parking lot. This trail was just shy of one mile in length but a great workout on this 64-degree day, another unusually warm yet wonderful winter day.
