HIKED HANGING GARDEN TRAIL Page, Arizona

Hiking Team: Dave Miller, Rosie Miller

Date: May 20, 2024

These two miles out and back hike was led by a NPS Ranger as he educated us about the dam, the river, and the hanging gardens. The flat trail led us past cactus, grasses, and sage (Photo#2) that smelled minty when rubbed together. The desert trail turned rocky with many spiral rocks leading us to a mini canyon. The rocks were discolored here due to past waterfall drippings. Under the rocks was tucked in a sort of small cave or oasis where the shade and dripping water allowed wildflowers, ferns and orchids to grow on the back wall and ceiling. The orchids were pretty and totally unexpected in this harsh environment.
