HIKED JONATHON RUN TRAIL Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania

Hiking Team: Dave Miller, Rosie Miller

Date: September 5, 2024

After bicycling about 25 miles at the GAP, we drove 30 miles back to Ohiopyle but before returning to the campground, we decided to hike one more trail before the sun set. This 1.5-mile trail took us into deep woods to Jonathon Fun Waterfall. The forest was lush, thick and green. The farther we hiked into this hollow the darker it became. Rosie was getting uneasy because it was very isolated, getting dark, this was bear country (although I carried bear spray) but what made us uneasy was the sign at the trailhead that said that this area of the parkland was open to hunting – please wear fluorescent orange. We made lots of noise as we hiked to scare off any bears and I wore a headlamp, so we tried to make sure that no hunters knew we were humans. Right before we reached the falls, we ran into a couple that was hiking and they gave us the bad news. Due to the near draught conditions, the waterfall was dry. So, we turned around and cautiously hiked back to the trailhead.
