I enjoyed competing with my oldest daughter Jacque in the Frogman Triathlon in beautiful Loveland, Ohio. I thank God every day as I just celebrated my fourth-year anniversary since the lifesaving bone marrow transplant for my leukemia. The last six months I have felt very well so we gave this race a try. We began with five-mile kayaking on the scenic Little Miami River. Due to Ohio’s extreme drought, on four occasions we had to get out of our kayaks and walk 30 to 50 yards as the river was too shallow. Still, it was a great paddle. We transitioned to our bicycles for a quick 8-mile bike on the Little Miami Bike Trail which parallels the river. For the final phase we hopped off the bikes and did the 5K Run. Thankfully, Jacque slowed down and stayed with me as I had to do a combination run and walk over the 3.1 miles. My body’s recovery is still struggling to run 3 miles without stopping. Overall, it was a fun experience and good to be back at it again.
