WORLD’S LARGEST GEODE, Put-In-Bay, Ohio

Expedition Team: Dave Miller

Date: August 2, 2025

Forty feet below a vineyard (Heineman Winery) on the island, I could stand inside the world’s largest Geode. It is called “Crystal Cave”, which was discovered in 1897 by winery well-diggers. The walls are blueish-white crystals of celestite, up to 1.5 feet long. Moisture dripped from the crystals.
