This 352-foot-high monument and international peace memorial on South Bay Island commemorates Commodore Oliver Perry’s War of 1812 Victory at the Battle of Lake Erie. Perry’s famous quote “Don’t Give Up the Ship”, spurred the Americans to victory over the British fleet.
