HIKED LAKE TRAIL Shawnee State Park, West Portsmouth, Ohio

Hiking Team: Dave Miller, Rosie Miller

Date: September 3, 2025

This trail led us 3.4 miles along the perimeter of Turkey Creek Lake south toward its dam/spillway and back around. The trail gave us periodic picturesque views of the lake and at other times it meandered back into the state forest. We saw several turtles but no other wildlife. Park Rangers told us this state park, also called “the Little Smokies”, is home to the endangered timber rattlesnake although we saw none on the trail. Part of this trail was the North Country National Scenic Trail and the Buckeye Trail. I was nice to hike another section of the famous Buckeye Trail.
