Next to the Shawshank Redemption Movie Scene Pugh Cabin, we hiked the Butternut Trail. Beech and Maple trees plus eight other species of trees grew along the trail. After a half mile the trail split. The Bridal Trail went left, and I kept right and eventually came to a small, glaciated cave called the Butternut Cave. The cave was nice and cool on this hot afternoon, and I penetrated the dark about 20 feet. A local hiker told me that you could climb up rocks and squeeze through and exit on the other side of the hill. I could see light coming through about thirty feet up in the distance. Since I did not have a flashlight, I was disappointed as I would have tried to climb out that way. Overall, it was a fun one-mile hike and I hope to come back and climb through the cave another time.
